F. Nicente - Screening e sviluppo tecnologico di target di deposizione innovativi per la raccolta di radionuclidi medicali nell’ambito del progetto ISOLPHARM

This thesis is part of the ISOLPHARM project, aimed at exploiting the beams of radioactive atoms produced by the ISOL technology available at INFN-LNL to produce high purity radionuclides, useful for applications in nuclear medicine. Among the fundamental tools of this branch of medicine there are radiopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical preparations that include radionuclides, whose radiation emitted can perform a diagnostic or therapeutic function. In this context, the thesis project focuses on the development of a solid support defined as a deposition target on which the radionuclides transported by the ISOL beam are collected. First, the materials created in previous works were optimized: direct compression mixtures based on cellulose and sugars; subsequently innovative target production methods were developed, based on the "solution casting" and "freeze and thaw" techniques. The objective was to obtain formulations with better characteristics than those of the targets currently available in terms of mechanical properties and compatibility with the ISOL machine. All the materials developed were compatible from a technological and mechanical point of view and the compatibility with different metal ions was verified, to identify the target with better characteristics for the application in ISOLPHARM.
